Kathy Brown and Mike Seymour, Iola High School seniors, won first and second places, respectively, in the statewide essay contest sponsored by the governors committee on hiring the handicapped. Miss Brown will be awarded a trip to Washington, D.C. this spring to attend the Presidents annual meeting on hiring the handicapped. She also will receive a $500 scholarship to the college of her choice. Seymour won a $1,000 scholarship to Washburn University.

Pepper Rodgers, head football coach at the University of Kansas, will be the speaker at the All Sports Banquet Monday at the National Guard Armory. The banquet is sponsored each year by the SPUR Club, Iolas adult sports booster group.

Ivan Strickler, local dairyman, will judge at the first Brazilian Holstein Exposition which will be held at Sao Paulo next month. It will be Stricklers first foreign judging assignment. Strickler is serving his second term as a director of the Holstein-Friesian Association of America.
