Dr. Cathy Conger, principal at McKinley Elementary School the past five years, resigned her position during Monday nights Board of Education meeting.
4 During 1993, Iola firemen responded to 106 calls. Fire Chief Wayne Still said that of the 106 incidents, 44 were fires that caused $62,640 in direct property losses.

Denise Apt of Iola is one of two people selected by Accessible Arts as a recipient of the organizations 1993 Distinguished Service Award. She is a legislative lobbyist for Accessible Arts and was instrumental in the not-for-profit organizations funding through the Kansas State Board of Education.

A $24,500 state grant has been made to the Allen County Historical Society to move Gen. Fred Funston home to Iola and do some restoration work on it. The money will come from state lottery funds.
5 Brian James Daugharthy, Jennifer Greenwall and Michael Norman, seniors at Iola High School, were selected to the Governors Scholars Award Program which honors the top 1 percent of Kansas High School seniors.

Sharon and Don Sigg, owners of Lady Bug Greenhouse, 731. S Kentucky, opened the business about a month ago.
6 TOPEKA Kids Voting Kansas hopes to have more than 48,500 elementary, junior high and high schools students in 14 communities, including Iola, participate in its program this year.
