The ninth annual convention of district council No. 7 of the United Cement, Lime and Gypsum Workers International Union opened a two-day session at the Hotel Kelley. About 50 delegates from various towns in Kansas, Nebraska, northern Oklahoma, western Missouri and South Dakota are here. The Iola union, Local No. 104, is host to the convention. James Williams, financial secretary of 104, gave the opening address this morning. Other speakers on the morning program were Mayor T.O. Waugh and Angelo Scott, editor of the Register. F. E. Black, secretary of the Kansas State Federation of Labor, will speak this afternoon.

HUMBOLDT — Carl A. Reynolds, 73, former mayor of Humboldt and veteran Allen County editor, died early this morning at his home. Three weeks ago he completed his third term as mayor of Humboldt. In 1898, Reynolds purchased the Savonburg Record and operated it until 1913. He had purchased the Humboldt Union in 1912 and devoted his full time to it after selling the Record. He published the Union until 1948 when he sold it to its present owners, Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Ferris. He served as postmaster of Humboldt from 1921 to 1934.

Through a cooperative project by the county and the city of Iola, a new drinking fountain is being installed on the south side of the courthouse at the spot where another fountain stood for many years. The WCTU statue that adorned the old fountain will be mounted above the new one, Alvin Ericson, chairman of the county commission, said today.
