Tom Nevans for the past several weeks has been remodeling the building at 19 W. Madison in preparation for the opening of The County Seat, which he said would be a cafe rather than a restaurant. The cafe is expected to open in early February. It has been more than a year since Iola has had a downtown restaurant and many in the business district say they are looking forward to the opening. Nevans has been employed at Emprise Bank for the past 15 years.

25 A concert featuring vocalists Lisa Tatsch, former Moran resident, and Mark Hastings, Iola, on Saturday will benefit Iolas Resource Center for Independent Living. The event will be at the Bowlus Fine Arts Center. All proceeds from the concert, up to $2,500, will be matched by the Home Office of Modern Woodmen of America.
