Iola High School’s forensics team wrapped up the regular season in style Saturday.
Iola’s competitive speaking and acting troupe took home first place in the team sweepstakes at the Osage City Invitational, buoyed by first-place finishes from Ben Heiman in oral interpretation of prose, Callie Sterling in oral interpretation of poetry, Sarah Ross in program of oral interpretation, Bethany Miller in humoroius solo acting, Madelyn Ashwroth in serious solo acting,Taegan Noyes and Jeffrey Aswhorth in duet acting, Heiman and Kaeden Vega in improvised duet acting, Bethany Miller in impromptu speaking and Lily Lohman in informative speaking.
It should be noted that many of the participants also were involved last weekend in the IHS theatrical production of “Deadline.”
Iola also competed March 28 at Fort Scott, taking second as a team.
The squad now sets its sights on the upcoming Class 3A State Speech and Drama Championships in Maize on May 2.
Before that, the state-bound participants will show off their entries at a forensics showcase in the Bowlus Fine Arts Center’s Creitz Recital Hall at 6 p.m. Monday, April 27.
