Tri-Valley Developmental Services has announced the purchase of a traveling automated external defibrillator (AED) for its Iola Service Center, aimed at improving safety for participants and staff during off-site outings.

Through a partnership with AEDGrant, Tri-Valley was able to obtain a Phillips HeartStart Defibrillator at a reduced cost. The portable device will allow staff to respond quickly in the event of a cardiac emergency.

“Thanks to the generosity of AEDGrant, we were able to obtain this traveling AED,” said Melissa Cannon-Smith, vice president of programming. “While many of our participants have complex medical needs, having timely access to life-saving interventions such as an AED is critical in emergencies. This portable AED will allow our support staff to act immediately should a cardiac emergency occur.”

Since 1993, AEDGrant has provided funding to support the deployment of lifesaving AED devices nationwide. Its AED BuyDown Grant Project helps organizations and individuals acquire AEDs at an affordable price. The new AED will be housed at the Iola Service Center and will serve individuals throughout Allen County.
