Pastor Chase Riebel gave his sermon online this week, due to the weather, titled “The Cost of Love.”
Love comes from God, and just like God, we should give that love away to others.
Why did God give us free will? Love can not be true love if it’s demanded or forced. True love is courageous, but it is also costly. God sacrificed his only son for us. He knew what he would need to do to procure humanity’s salvation.
People use the verse John 3:16 to “prove” that God is love, not merely a loving God. And as a loving God, He is just. He is to be feared, respected and obeyed, and He will judge humanity based on his righteous standards. But we are still given the choice to love him or not. We can choose to accept or reject his love for us.
We are also called to love others self-sacrificially; with patience and kindness, not rejoicing in their sins.
Reflect God’s love back to others. By doing this, it proves to the world that we are his disciples, and that is the first step in changing relationships. We need to consume God’s love so we can stay spiritually alive and relay his love to others. So put others above yourself, extend grace, be compassionate, be humble and love others.
