Happy Hearts members were shown Monday how to Slide into Home Plate.
Hostess Marla Wilson gave the lesson, explaining how sliders are a quick and easy meal.
Sliders can be made for one to a dozen, Wilson explained. Theyre fun to make with grandchildren just the right size for little hands.
Wilson suggested using a variety of rolls, either store-bought or made from scratch: white, wheat, rye, pretzel bread, French bread, bagels, croissants and even biscuits from a tube can be used.
The other appeal is that sliders can be as elaborate or as simple as one wishes to make them. You can use leftover meat from other meals. Just layer on the meat, cheese and other ingredients, place them in the oven and bake.
Sliders can be frozen and kept for later, she noted, and are great with fresh fruits or salad.
Slider recipes are available at the Extension office in the Allen County Courthouse.
Happy Hearts members presented a Christmas dinner for a young family in need, and discussed needs for food at Humanity Houses community pantry. Hope Unlimited is in need of personal items.
The groups next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 at Riverside Park in Iola.
