Railroad crossing arm hit

Allen County sheriff’s deputies fielded a report Thursday that a white pickup, speeding to beat a train crossing on Texas Road at Bayard, hit a crossing gate arm that had been deployed.

The motorist did not stop and continued eastbound, deputies said.

A southbound train was unaffected by the incident. A Union Pacific maintenance crew was on the scene within an hour to repair the damaged crossing bar.

Pedestrian hit

Roy L. Robertson escaped serious injury Oct. 20, when he was struck by a vehicle backing from a parking stall at Iola Walmart.

Iola police officers said Robertson spoke briefly with the driver, whose name was not reported, and refused medical treatment at the scene.

Arrests reported

Allen County sheriff’s deputy arrested Alexandria S.Y. Murphy, 30, Tonganoxie, Thursday, for a Johnson County warrant related to failure to appear to face a pair of theft charges.

Iola police officers arrested Chase Milam of Iola Thursday in the 400 block of North First Street for suspicion of possessing alcohol as a minor.

Iola officers arrested Matthew Daly for an Anderson County warrant Oct. 26 in the 500 block of North Kentucky Street.

Katarina Ramirez was arrested by Iola officers Oct. 25 for suspicion of domestic battery, criminal restraint and endangering a child in the 500 block of Eisenhower Drive.

Charges requested

Iola police officers were called to a disturbance involving a juvenile Wednesday in the 400 block of North Third Street. Charges have been filed.

Missing offenders reported

Deputies reported three offender violations Thursday.
