Karen Lee hosted 17 Unity Club members in her home Monday.
Mary Joseph reviewed the book Cades Cove: The Life and Death of a Southern Appalachian Community (1818-1937), by Durwood Dunn.
The author describes the daily lives of the early pioneers, their beliefs and their struggles to survive and prosper.
In Cades Cove, geographical isolation did not lead to cultural or economic deprivation, but to a close-knit community with a strong sense of tradition and local pride. The book traces the founding, development and demise of this rural community.
Cades Cove, which lies in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, is a living museum of Southern Appalachian culture.
