The Amazing Race will arrive in Iola this week, courtesy of Iola Public Library. The library will host the event, “Iola style,” Saturday.
The Amazing Race is a hit reality television show where teams of two people race around the globe and compete against other teams. Contestants make “pit stops” in different countries and cities and complete trials.
The television series inspired the library to create a local version of the competition. Melissa Frantz, librarian assistant, said Lisa Cole, public service librarian, came up with the idea for a local race.
The race will start at 11 a.m. Saturday at the library. Just like the show, teams will leave the starting place and travel to different places.
“Each new place will include a clue,” Frantz said. “The clue tells team members where they need to go next.”
The goal is to make it back to the library before other teams. The race will end by 2 p.m. and teams must finish at the library. Finishers will receive prizes. Refreshments will be served, as well.
The event has already had a huge response. Cole said the library is no longer taking registrations for the race.
“We have 16 teams signed up and we have reached our limit” Cole said.
Frantz said there are a lot of families signed up, and while teams require at least two members, they may have more.
There was no cost to sign up for the event.
