A not-so-gentle nudge

A cattle trailer owned by David Colgin, rural Moran, became snagged at a non-public crossing late Wednesday morning and was struck by a Union Pacific freight train about 5 1/2 miles north of Moran. Colgin freed cattle in the trailer and unhitched his pickup truck shortly before the coal-hauling train struck the trailer. The engineer began to slow the train when the trailer was spotted, which resulted in the incident occurring at low speed and the trailer being pushed only a short distance. Colgin was not injured and his truck sustained no damage, Allen County officers said.
