Organizers have scrapped plans for a weekend barbecue cookoff in Iola.
Iola High School’s Doug Kerr, coach of the IHS Underhogs, said two teams planning to compete pulled out of the competition, putting the number below the threshold to host the event and not lose money.
The cookoff is a fundraiser, he noted.
In its stead, the Underhogs will now set their sights on a competition hosted by Johnson County Community College May 3.
The Iola squad also qualified for nationals June 2-6 in Gardner.
