The days are long gone when only cowboys wore cowboy boots.
Here to ensure men, women, boys and girls of all ages can be fitted for a new pair of boots for Christmas is Glenn Coffield of Town and Country Western and Casual Wear, 17 E. Madison Ave.
Coffield said boots have been a popular Christmas item this season, a trend he expects to continue.
“I’ve been very pleased with how business has been,” Coffield said, noting that shoppers started entering his store around Thanksgiving Day, with business improving markedly on Black Friday.
“We’ll continue to get busier as Christmas approaches,” said Coffield, who has manned Town and Country for the past 31 years.
Coffield chuckles at customers who bring in a family member, from husband to child, to be fitted for boots or other clothing, “yet they still act surprised when they get them as a gift.”
The popular Gypsy Boots are a hit among girls this year, in part because they come in a variety of colors.
“Everybody has to have their own color,” Coffield said, noting he has a large catalog to fit special color requests. “Just ask,” he said. “We’ll see what we can do.”
But the store is more than just boots.
Town and Country offers men’s, young men’s, women’s, juniors’ and boys’ clothing lines, with a wide selection of name brands such as Levi’s, Lee, Roper, Wrangler, IZOD and Silver Jeans.
Assisting Coffield are employees Michelle Clark and Morgan Smith.
Coffield said Clark and Smith work well with customers, a necessity “because it’s important that we’re able to help people who may not know what they want when they walk in the door.”
Town and Country will extend its business hours through Christmas, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, until 7 p.m. Thursdays and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.
