All three mayoral candidates and the 17 candidates to form Iola’s new city council will speak tonight at an open house for local voters to better get to know their potential city governors.
The event begins at 6:15 in the Iola High School commons area.
The candidates will begin by introducing themselves and speak briefly before separating into groups. The mayoral hopefuls will form one group, while the council candidates will break off into their respective wards to field specific questions from local voters.
Iola voters will head to the polls April 5 to select the eight council members — two each from the city’s four voting wards — plus the mayor elected at large. All of the winning candidates will serve two-year terms.
The event will be moderated by Iolan Jim Talkington and is sponsored by Allen County Farm Bureau.
