Charles Stanley Young, 77, Humboldt, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
Charles was born Jan. 10, 1938, in Osage, Okla., the son of John and Annie (Walters) Young. He grew up in the Cleveland, Okla., area where he graduated from high school in 1957. He served in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army as a paratrooper from June 1957 to March 1960.
On May 31, 1963, Charles married Kathleen Wyvonne Bearpaw in Bartlesville, Okla. They made their home in Sand Springs, Okla., until moving to Humboldt in 1967. He worked for Sinclair Pipeline and retired as station operator for ARCO Pipeline. Kathy preceded him in death Nov. 12, 2009.
Charles was a member of First Baptist Church in Humboldt.
He is survived by his three children, Anthony Young and companion Joan Ross, Pittsburg, Sheila Fitzmaurice and husband Jeff, Humboldt, and Karen Cornish and husband Brian, Olathe; three siblings, Kenneth Young and wife Nellie, Henderson, Ky., Allie Wiles, Claremore, Okla., and Eugene Young and wife Emmie, Wewahitchka, Fla.; five grandchildren, Garrett Fitzmaurice, Jordan Young, Kassidy Young, Taylor Fitzmaurice and Kindahl Young; and two great-grandchildren, Braxton and Hallie Fitzmaurice.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kathleen, and four siblings, Mary Alderson, Kathryn Anglin and Edward and Jim Young.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Humboldt. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt.
Memorial gifts to The Kathleen Young Memorial Scholarship at H.H.S. may be left with Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
