Applicants seeking to fill local city council or school board seats have until noon June 1 to file.
The primary election is Aug. 1; the general election is Nov. 7.
In Iola, Mayor Steve French is up for re-election, as are City Council members Nickolas Kinder (Ward 1), Carl Slaugh (Ward 2), Kim Peterson (Ward 3) and Joelle Shallah (Ward 4.)
Humboldt Mayor Nobby Davis is up for re-election as are Paul Cloutier (Ward 1, Position 1), Jeffrey Bowman (Ward 1, Position 2), Otis Crawford (Ward 2, Position 1) and Sunny Shreeve (Ward 2, Position 2).
In LaHarpe, Mae Crowell is up for re-election, as are Council members Austin Lee and Danny Ware Jr.
Moran Mayor Jerry Wallis is up for re-election, as are Council members Jim Mueller and Corky Lynes.
Gas City Council members George Grisier, Larry Robertson and Harry Holloway are up for re-election.
The entire governing bodies for Bassett, Elsmore and Savonburg also are on the ballot.
ACC/SCHOOL BOARDS
Allen Community College trustees Gena Clounchy, Vicki Curry and Lonnie Larson are up for re-election.
Seats up for grabs for Iola-USD 257 are held by Jen Taylor, Doug Dunlap, Tony Leavitt and Dan Willis. The seat formerly held by Mandey Coltrane also remains vacant after she resigned in April.
In Humboldt-USD 258, positions held by Tony Works, Sandra Whitaker, Drake Tilman and Josh Wrestler are on the ballot.
Marmaton Valley-USD 256 members Bob Rhodes, Jim Armstrong and Kris Smith are up for re-election, as are seats held by Kenneth McWhirter and Kenneth McVey, who had been appointed to fill vacancies on the board.
KANSAS APPLESEED, a non-profit organization that deals with such things as civic engagement, is hosting a “Running For Office 101” session from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Independence Historical Museum and Art Center in Independence.
Topics will include running a campaign, budgeting basics, filing procedures and applying for appointed positions.
The public is invited.
