Darolyn (Crickett) Maley filed Tuesday by petition for Allen County treasurer.
An employee for 10 years, Maley said she was eager to keep continuity in the office, which has had Sharon Utley at its helm since her election to the first of three terms in November 2000. Utley announced earlier she would not seek re-election.
The treasurer serves four-year terms.
Whoever is elected to succeed Utley will take office in October 2013; all other elected county officials take office in January following a November election — this year’s will be Nov. 6. The filing deadline is noon June 1.
Maley is not a newcomer to elective politics, having served one term on the USD 256 (Moran-Elsmore) school board.
Prior to taking a job in the treasurer’s office, she worked at City Hall and the post office in Moran — she lives between Moran and Elsmore — and in restaurants with her parents and a grocery in Moran.
She has three grown children.
Undersheriff Bryan Murphy also formally filed by petition for election as Allen County sheriff on Tuesday. The Register announced his intention earlier.
