Allen County Deputy Harold Dan Sherwood was suspended from duty Friday, the result of a protection from abuse (PFA) order filed against him by his ex-wife, Beverly Van Santford, in Shawnee County.

Van Santford, in a telephone interview Monday afternoon, also said a domestic investigation involving Sherwood was under way in Shawnee, Okla., where her 20-year-old daughter lives.

A spokesman in the Shawnee, Okla., prosecutor’s office told the Register no charges had been filed there against Sherwood and would not confirm that an investigation was being pursued.

Sherwood and Van Santford were married in June 2003. They are divorced.

Van Santford, who lives in Washington state, told the Register she was visiting in the Topeka area at Christmastime with their 8-year-old twin son and daughter when she asked for the protection order. She said Monday she had remained in Shawnee County, “in protective custody.”
