Back when rail service was at its peak in Allen County, the Tulsa-to-Kansas City Oil Flyer would make its way past Iola on the old Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad.
Another “Tulsa flyer” made his way through the area a bit more recently — with costly results.
Kameron N. Hopper found himself ticketed twice for speeding in a span of seven minutes and five miles the evening of April 11.
The tickets were handled this week in Allen County Magistrate Court.
Hopper was cited by a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper first at 7:12 p.m. on April 11 for traveling 88 mph in a 65 mph zone, about two miles north of Iola.
The ink on the ticket barely had time to dry when Hopper was caught about two miles south of Iola at 7:19 by an Allen County sheriff’s deputy, this time doing 85 in a 65.
The double-trouble was a costly affair. Hopper paid $394 in fines.
