A tip to the Iola Police Department led to the arrest of two suspects charged with shooting out vehicle windshields with a BB gun on the Allen County Community College campus over the weekend.
Devon Shaffer, 20, and Cory Hedstrom, 18, both of Yates Center, were arrested shortly after midnight Saturday while shooting out street lights on the 400 block of South Washington Street.
Earlier that evening, at least three vehicles parked at the college had front or back windshields shot out. Abraham Walker, Megan Atchison and Anwar S. Perry all reported damage of at least $500 to their vehicles.
When officers confronted Shaffer and Hedstorm, it was discovered both were transporting and consuming alcohol as minors.
Shaffer was charged with transporting an open container, minor consuming alcohol and no proof of insurance. Hedstrom was charged with transporting an open container and minor consuming alcohol.
Both were linked to the vehicle shootings and to a City of Iola utilities structure that was damaged on the 100 block of North Kentucky Street.
Two charges of felony criminal damage to property and misdemeanor criminal damage to property are being requested against each suspect.
In a related matter, Seth Bolling reported being a victim of criminal damage to property of under $1,000 Monday at the ACCC campus.
