ELSMORE Elsmore Ruritan Club is sponsoring an Independence Day celebration Saturday.
Concessions will be served beginning at 6:30 p.m. Diners can enjoy hot dogs, Polish sausages, Frito chili pies, homemade ice cream, cookies, brownies, cupcakes and drinks. Fireworks will begin at dusk. Bring lawn chairs and enjoy the evening.
The community building will be open for those wanting to browse the book nook. Bring your used books and exchange for others.
The Elsmore club, with 45 members, is a community service organization dedicated to helping the Elsmore community and surrounding area.
The club gave out $1,400 in college scholarships this year, helped maintain the community garden and playground area and held food pantry distributions monthly.
Members helped neighbors with household chores, transported patients to medical appointments and gave treats to students riding buses to Moran. Thanksgiving food boxes were given to 11 families, Christmas goodies to senior citizens, and donations made to Marmaton Valley schools, Humanity House, Salvation Army and a local couple doing mission work overseas.
