Rep. Lynn Jenkins, running for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives, will be in Iola Thursday for what is billed as a job creation forum.
Jenkins will be joined by Rep. Bill Otto and Sen. Derek Schmidt, currently a candidate for Kansas attorney general; former Iola Mayor John McRae, speaking on behalf of Iola Industries; John Masterson, president of Allen County Community College; representatives from Sens. Sam Brownback’s and Pat Roberts’ and Rep. Jerry Moran’s offices;  along with officials from the U.S. and Kansas departments of commerce and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development office.
The meeting will not specifically target how to replace Haldex Brake, which announced last month that it was closing its Iola plant later this year, but will be a “public forum and brainstorming session to consider opportunities for business development,” Mayor Bill Maness said.
The 5:30 p.m. forum will be in the Iola High School lecture hall.
