Iolan Raymond “Bud” Sifers raised more money than Bill Otto, Le Roy, in the initial financial reporting period in his campaign for the 9th District Kansas House Republican nomination. Reports are for fundraising and expenditures from Jan. 1 to July 22.
Sifers took in $11,483.57, including a $3,758.57 loan he made to his campaign.
During the same period Otto, the incumbent, raised $7,940. However, Otto had slightly more money available because of $3,989.57 he had in his campaign treasury prior to Jan. 1, putting the total available to him at $11,929.57.
Otto spent $9,664.77 up to the time he filled out the report, leaving him with $2,264.80 cash in hand. Sifers spent 5,884.04, which left him with $5,599.53.
It is notable that money raised and spent after the July 22 reporting date won’t be revealed until later, and that the greatest campaign activity frequently occurs during the last few days before an election.
Candidates file finance reports in their home county, which means particulars of Sifers’ report — who contributed how much and how money was spent — are available at the Allen County clerk’s office. Otto’s report was filed with the Coffey County clerk in Burlington.
