GAS — Gas councilmen overlooked policy Tuesday evening and voted to sell 12 lots to Cindy Todd, so that she and her companion may place a manufactured home.
Gas had owned the lots for several years and policy dictated no more than three facing a street, and three others behind, would be sold for a single dwelling. The premise was the town eventually would end up with two houses, which would enhance property tax collections.
However, Todd and her companion offered $20,000 for the lots, $2,000 more than what Gas had them priced, and assured councilmen “a friend in St. Louis” eventually would move to Gas and put up a house on the property second six lots.
The vote was 3-0-2. Larry Robertson, who made the motion for the sale, Kenny Baker and George Grisier voted for the sale. Harry Holloway and Mark Henry abstained.
Mayor Darrel Catron was absent because of illness.
An audit report, prepared by Jarred, Gilmore and Phillips, Chanute, found no issues with Gas financial records.
