The status of the newest addition to student housing at ACC, the “six-plex,” was discussed at Thursday night’s meeting of Allen Community College trustees.
The apartment building has been under construction since spring and is nearing completion. Among items still needing to be addressed are some of the door handle and lock systems were not sent with the correct pieces, a security system that hasn’t been installed yet and a construction schedule that is slightly behind schedule.
According to Steve Troxel, vice president of finances and operations, the door handle and lock systems problem will be a relatively easy fix. The security system issue is something that also isn’t a major issue from an installation standpoint. However the system cannot be installed until after the construction is pretty much done.
Troxel and John Masterson, president of Allen Community College, also expressed some anxiety about the timeline left for construction. Many of the early move-in athletes are slated to be residents in the new building. In preparation for the new tenants, furniture is supposed to be moved in by no later than Aug. 4. The deadline for completion of construction is July 31.
