Patrick Cash was the last (county) man standing in a 40-hour training seminar at the Kansas prison in Lansing.
“We’re proud of Patrick,” said Sheriff Bryan Murphy. “I had the training years ago, and I know how tough it is, tougher than Army boot camp a lot of people say.
“There were several county employees who began the training, and Patrick was the only one to complete it.”
Cash, 23, rural LaHarpe, has been on the county’s jail staff three years. During the week at Lansing, he completed SORT — special operations and response team — training designed for Kansas Department of Corrections officers. He was one of 17 who started the week-long course, and one of 10 to complete it, as well as being the only county employee.
His training included forced extraction of inmates from cells, riot control and basic search of cells. He also was tutored in defensive tactics, and to graduate had to complete a six-kilometer run and have his endurance tested by standing in formation four straight hours.
