In recognition of National Apprenticeship Week, April 26–May 2, Allen Community College will host “Drive Your Future: Career Exploration Day” on Thursday, April 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will take place in the college gym and adjacent parking area.

From the Fitzgerald Act of 1937 to today’s modern workforce, apprenticeships have played a vital role in providing work-based education and creating pathways to stable, rewarding careers for millions of Americans. Across a wide range of industries, apprenticeship programs continue to help employers develop skilled, job-ready talent while offering individuals the opportunity to earn while they learn.

In Kansas alone, more than 4,000 residents are currently participating in Registered Apprenticeship Programs across 219 occupations, supported by more than 1,000 recognized employers. These numbers continue to grow as more industries recognize the value of apprenticeship-based training according to the Kansas Office of Registered Apprenticeships.

Allen Community College is actively contributing to this growth through its apprenticeship program, which connects students with local employers to gain hands-on experience while completing their education. The program offers opportunities in high-demand fields and is designed to meet workforce needs in the region by combining classroom instruction with paid, on-the-job training. Students benefit from real-world experience, industry mentorship and a direct pathway into the workforce, while employers build a reliable pipeline of skilled talent.

“Drive Your Future: Career Exploration Day” will highlight these opportunities by bringing together local businesses and industry partners to engage with students and community members. Attendees will have the chance to explore hands-on career pathways, connect with employers and learn more about apprenticeship opportunities available through Allen and across the region.

The event will also feature a “touch-a-truck” experience, giving participants an up-close look at a variety of vehicles and equipment used in different professions.
