After weather-related delays slowed work in recent weeks, crews have been back at it, refurbishing the brick surface of a building at 224 N. Washington Ave.

The work began at the start of the year, after crews with JCM Restoration, Fort Scott, removed the metal facade that had adorned the building for decades.

Removing the metal exposed brick and mortar that likely had not  been touched since the building was erected in the early years of the 20th century.

The building formerly was a hardware store, a filling station, car lot and then home for Merchants Supply, but now is used for storage.

Replacing the mortar joints, a meticulous job, should be complete by the end of March, the workers said.
