Iola City Council members will discuss Monday a proposed joint recycling endeavor with Allen County.

The city is proposing a trailer or cargo container be placed next to the old EMS annex at 410 N. State St.

County crews would then use a lean-to or carport to house cardboard until enough is gathered to fill a trailer, at which time city crews would help load the cardboard for transport.

In the scenario, the city would pay for the storage units, but would not have to hire an additional employee, City Administrator Matt Rehder wrote in his notes to the Council.

Mayor Steve French will lead Monday’s discussion.

Also to be discussed  Monday is the sale of $9.6 million in bonds to fund the first portion of the U.S. 54 rebuild in Iola. The rebuild is slated to begin sometime around June.

Monday’s meeting is open to the public.
