The FIFA World Cup Kansas City Countdown Clock has been placed at the southeast corner of Iola’s courthouse square, where it will remain through April 16, reminding passersby that the 2026 World Cup Soccer Tournament is almost here.

KDOT employees Randy Call and Tony Shaw made the special delivery Friday morning. The clock measures 10 feet tall and is lighted. It’s been to 11 cities across Kansas before Iola, including Kansas City, Hutchinson, Wichita, Dodge City, Colby, Hays, Salina, Abilene, Manhattan, Topeka, and Emporia.

This year’s World Cup begins Thursday, June 11, with 48 nations from across the world participating. Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium will host six games, including a June 16 matchup between defending champion Argentina and Algeria.

Mexico, Canada and the United States are this year’s three host countries, with matches split between the three. The final will be on July 19 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
