The onset of spring brings with it the obligatory chances of severe weather.

The National Weather Service teamed up with Allen County Emergency Management to present “Storm Fury on the Plains” Monday at the Bowlus Fine Arts Center.

A crowd of about 20 took part in the two-hour presentation that covered everything from the basics, such as the difference between watches and warnings, to how to properly identify a storm’s strength, and the proper way to discern whether a storm has the potential to produce tornadoes.

In addition to meteorologist Andy Kleinsasser’s presentation, Emergency Management Director Jason Trego noted Allen County has recently replaced its Code Red notification system.

That means residents must re-register to enroll in the Genasys notification system, either by calling Trego at (620) 365-1477 or by visiting allencountyks.genasys.com.
