ERIE — Former Erie City Clerk Jessica Altman faces felony theft charges after prosecutors alleged she stole city funds.

The Erie Police Department announced the allegations in a Facebook post Thursday, noting Altman’s employment had been terminated by the city on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Neosho County Attorney Sheryll Bussell filed two charges of felony theft and eight counts of making false filings.

Bussell told KOAM evidence suggested some customers paid their utility bills directly to Altman through Cash App, rather than through official city channels.

Court records allege Altman illegally took in two deposits in December totaling more than $2,000, and other deposits in February, totaling more than $2,400.

Altman appeared in front of Magistrate Judge Melissa Dugan Thursday.

Her next appearance is set for May 19.
