Humboldt banner project promotes mental health

Humboldt High School students offered message of support and hope on a giant banner that will be displayed in the school in a project spearheaded by the school's Zero Reasons Why chapter.

HUMBOLDT — It was a banner day for mental health awareness Wednesday at Humboldt High School.

The school’s Zero Reasons Why chapter hosted “Banner Day” during the the school’s lunch period, where students were invited to pen notes of support to their fellow classmates.

The messages were short, to the point, and decidedly heartfelt.

Some used uplifting quotes, or other kinds words, “powerful messages that will remain on display for everyone to see,” said Darcie Croisant, Humboldt Middle School counselor.

“It was filled with creativity, encouragement and powerful reminders of hope,” Croisant said. 

Banner Day illustrates the ongoing efforts of Zero Reason’s Why to raise mental health and suicide prevention awareness, and to build a community “where are students and staff feel comfortable talking and addressing mental health issues,” Croisant said.
