Iolan Deana Foster was killed Sunday evening in a three-vehicle accident south of Iola.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department reported Foster was traveling along Old 169 over the Elm Creek Bridge just south of Iola when her 2006 Chevrolet Silverado crossed over the center of the road and sideswiped a 2013 Jeep Wrangler driven by Emma Westhoff of Chanute.
Foster’s pickup continued northbound, partially in the southbound lane and collided with a southbound 2024 Honda HR-V driven by Meghan Sparks of Humboldt.
Foster’s vehicle overturned and slid off the side of the roadway, trapping the driver inside.
The Iola Fire Department’s rescue team freed Foster, who had been wearing a seat belt. She was taken by ambulance to Allen County Regional Hospital, and then to a Kansas City hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Weshtoff’s vehicle sustained minor damage. She was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured.
Sparks’s vehicle sustained heavy damage from the collision, and then after it collided with the concrete bridge structure.
Sparks, who was wearing a seat belt, refused medical treatment at the scene. Deputies noted her vehicle’s airbags deployed in the crash.
