Man convicted on child porn charges

CHANUTE — A Kansas man was found guilty Monday of child pornography charges after pleading no contest in Neosho County District Court, according to a press release from the Attorney General’s office.

Byron C. Johnson, 43,  El Dorado, formerly of Chanute, pled no contest to two counts of sexual exploitation of a child. Judge Daryl D. Ahlquist accepted Johnson’s plea and entered a guilty verdict on the charges. The crimes allegedly occurred between 2008 and 2009. The victim was 4 years old at the time.

Sentencing has been scheduled for April 19 at 1:30 p.m.

The case was investigated by the Chanute and Iola police departments with assistance from the Wichita-Sedgwick County Exploited and Missing Child Unit and the Heart of America Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory in Kansas City, Mo.

Assistant Attorney General Christine Ladner prosecuted the case.
