Mike McKinnis has informed The Register he will not assume the role of Ward Three city council representative, even though he won the position in Tuesday’s general election.
McKinnis, who is moving in May to Ward Four, garnered 37 votes (over Gene Myrick’s 28 votes) to put him in the two-year city council seat along with incumbent Don Becker. Once McKinnis moves out of his ward, he will be ineligible to represent the council.
As for the open seat, it will be appointed by Iola Mayor Joel Wicoff, along with a vote from the city council members. The new city council will be sworn in on the April 25 Iola City Council meeting.
