Open house to recognize Prairie Spirit

An open house to celebrate the Prairie Spirit Rail Trail State Park will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Riverside Park Community Building in Iola.
The event will include presentations from area organizers of the trail.
Thrive Allen County’s executive director David Toland will give a presentation at 10 a.m. on its variety of community activities, including the Prairie Spirit Trail extension from Cofachique Park to Riverside Park within Iola and new construction of the Southwind trail that travels from the City of Iola to the City of Humboldt. A map will also show the proposed Cottonwood trail that would travel east from the Prairie Spirit Trail within Iola.
Kristi Lee from the Franklin County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Mary Lou Ruppert from the Garnett Chamber of Commerce will have information about activities, events, and organizations within the Franklin County and Anderson County areas.
Allen County Hospital will have representatives on hand to take blood pressure and body mass index for a quick health evaluation and what these numbers mean to you.
Christie Joyce from the Public Health Department will have information on vaccinations and other health-related material.
David Fontaine will have bicycles on hand to answer maintenance, repair, and safety questions.
The Friends of the Prairie Spirit Trail will provide snacks and information on how you can join the group and get involved in helping the trail.
