Tyler Reynolds, 53, Garnett, suffered what Allen County sheriff’s deputies described as minor injuries Saturday morning after he overturned his highway transport south of Moran on U.S. 59. Reynolds was hauling a full load of wet feed and was southbound on the highway, about 5 miles south of Moran when he attempted to avoid striking a small herd of black cows standing in the roadway. Deputies said the cows had come from land owned by Ray LaRue, west of the highway, although they were uncertain how the cattle got loose. There were no apparent issues with the fencing. Six animals were struck and killed. Reynolds was wearing his seat belt, deputies said, and was taken to the hospital afterward for treatent. Several neighboring farmers assisted with cleanup, as did Kansas Department of Transportation crews. The feed was strewn several yards along the ditch and highway. Traffic was limited for several hours afterward as the wreckage was cleared. REGISTER/RICHARD LUKEN
