Around the world, millions of people face constraints on open practice of their religious beliefs.
In the United States, no such restriction exists.
Yet religious participation is uneven.
Some churches are experiencing growth, while others founder. Youth may be plugged into church activities, while middle-aged adults are less active.
Iola churches are no exception.
The Register conducted an exhaustive survey of Iola’s churches, speaking with pastors about prayer, time commitment and their congregations’ level of activity and involvement.
Each church is featured in depth in its own story. Together, they offer a picture of the health of the faith community of our town.
Today marks the first story in this series, which will run every Monday over the next several months.
