The first in a series of meetings to discuss improvements to schools in USD 257, including construction of new facilities, will be Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 in Iola High’s library.
Many of those who participated in planning sessions three and four years ago — aborted by the recession — have been asked to participate again. Everyone is welcome.
A brief review of what was done previously will top the meeting, along with a review of facility needs by Scott Stanley, district director of operations. Principals and directors of special services — food, technology, curriculum, SAFE BASE and the Bowlus Fine Arts Center — also will make presentations.
Break-out sessions will give those attending opportunities to categorize thoughts about what they think should be done, with additional time for responses.
Administrators and board members will digest all that is proposed over the next several weeks, with the next meeting anticipated in July or August.
Brian Pekarek, superintendent of schools, stressed the importance of public input.
