MORAN — Activities for everyone — young and old — are in store for visitors to the Marmaton Valley High School’s annual carnival Oct. 29.
The Harvest Hoedown events are sponsored by the school’s Spanish Club and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapters.
Spanish Club members are raising funds for a June trip to Costa Rica. FCCLA members, meanwhile, will use their proceeds for a number of activities, including a dinner for area senior citizens at Thanksgiving, Allen County Animal Rescue Facility, the local Adopt-A-Child program at Christmas and to pay for class trips during the school year.
Festivities kick off at 4:30 p.m. in the old gymnasium and will include several old standbys, said Elaine Stewart, FCCLA adviser.
“Kids always like the ring toss and the cakewalk, and of course the face painting,” Stewart said.
New activities include “Chuck The Chicken,” a pickle toss and bowling.
In a nod to adults in attendance, bingo games will be played in an adjoining room.
The carnival includes a homemade chicken and noodles dinner complete with mashed potatoes, green beans, hot roll, drink and dessert for $5 adults and $3 students.
Several merchants have donated gift items for a silent auction, while Spanish Club and FCCLA members have teamed to assemble several gift baskets as well.
Strips of 100 tickets will sell in advance for $20 starting Wednesday at the school. “Everything requires tickets,” Stewart said. The price for tickets sold at the door has not been set.

THE CARNIVAL is only part of a busy month for both clubs.
FCCLA members will treat local veterans to dinner on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. No advance registration is necessary, Stewart said. “Just show up. We’ll make plenty.”
The vets will also be treated to a matinee showing of the high school play, “Virgil’s Wedding,” which premiers that week.
Spanish Club members are accepting orders for live Christmas wreaths.
Three types of 25-inch wreaths, along with sprays, centerpieces and miniature decorated trees, are available.
Club members Ashley Zibung, Halie Luken, Morgan Henry, Ben Smith, Cody Knight, Scott Tholen, Tanner Lewis, Mercedes Trollope, Melanie Henderson, Eve Jefferis, Hollie Sparks, Maggie Meiwes, Amie Beggs, Molly McEwan and Lindsey McMurray are accepting orders.
Items may also be ordered by calling sponsor Julie Tholen at (620) 237-4251.
