EMPORIA — Searchers found the body of a 28-year-old schoolteacher reported missing Friday in Emporia.

The search team reported finding the body of Rebecca Rauber Sunday afternoon about 300 yards away from the area where she was last spotted walking on video less than 48 hours earlier, the Emporia Police Department announced in a Facebook post.

Searchers began scouring the neighborhoods around the 700 block of West Fourth Avenue after Rauber was last seen leaving the Town Royal Bar in the 400 block of Commercial Street shortly before midnight Friday, without her purse, phone or jacket. Additional football found Rauber walking along Fifth and Fourth avenues.

Several search teams, with the assistance of several search dogs, began searching later that night, in bitterly cold temperatures and periodic rounds of snow. She was found in a wooded area, according to EPD.

Initial indications were that Rauber succumbed to hypothermia early on in her disappearance, according to the EPD post, because she was covered in snow.

Rauber’s family has been notified.

Assisting with the search were the Kansas HIghway Patrol, Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, Search and Rescue of Kansas and the Lyon County Communications Center.

An investigation continues.
