Sunflower Summer, a promotion allowing youngsters more access to sites of interest across the state, has been extended to Aug. 8.

The program originally was slated to end on Sunday, but was extended the additional five days when organizers determined they had enough funding for the effort.

Sunflower Summer reimburses families for one child and one adult’s admission price to visit any of 200-plus sites across the state, including the Allen County Historical Society Museum in Iola.

State funding cuts forced organizers to pare the program from the full summer to a three-week period.

It should be noted locally that the ACHS Museum allows free access, so visitors can stop by any time during normal operating hours.
