Second-year student Conner Clark pulled onto the Allen Community College campus on Saturday, ready to move into the Red Devil Duplexes.
He carefully moved in his belongings into his apartment, while avoiding the chaos going on around him. Families from near and far were moving their kids into the campus living centers this weekend.
Clark, who is a pitcher on the baseball team, made the three-hour trek from Fayetteville, Ark.
I am kind of used to ACC now after getting my first year out of the way, Clark said. I know my way around the campus and around town, so its more just getting settled in.
Despite being from the home of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Clark grew up rooting for the Texas A&M Aggies.
Clarks family moved to Arkansas when he was 7, when his father took a job with Walmart.
While I did grow up in Arkansas, I will always be an A&M fan, Clark said.
The sophomore pre-med major is loaded up with a full slate of courses, taking 18 credit hours this fall.
Its going to be tough, its going to be busy for sure, Clark said. The biggest thing is just getting back into the swing of things.
Clark is unsure about where he will go when he graduates from ACC.
I just have to see where baseball takes me and if I am going to be able to get a scholarship to pitch somewhere, he said. If not, then I will just find the best place to continue my education.
Clark describes himself as a finesse pitcher at the college level, after going through high school being able to overpower batters.
It has been a big change for sure. I have had to change my game up and make some adjustments, he said.
Wherever baseball takes him, he has learned to like the town of Iola.
Its a nice town, the people are nice, I like my teachers and the students, Clark said. Its like everywhere, I guess. Every town has its advantages and disadvantages. I have enjoyed my time here so far.
