The Healthy Lifestyles committee of Thrive Allen County is sponsoring a trail cleanup along the proposed extension of the Prairie Spirit Trail from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday between Lincoln Street and West Street.
This event is intended primarily to clear brush and overgrowth and clear the way for paving that will come later. Iola removed junk vehicles and large metal from the area last week.
The city will learn in June if it received a Kansas Department of Transportation grant to fund the paving.
RSVP for the cleanup to ruth.stclair@thriveallencounty.org. Bring hand tools — saws, rakes, shovels, chainsaws, etc. — if you have them. Gloves are recommended.
