Two people, one an incumbent, filed Tuesday for positions on the USD 257 Board of Education. The filings created one race and left just one position without a candidate.
Don Snavely, 802 S. State St., filed for re-election to position No. 1. He is completing his first four-year term on the BOE. Virginia L. Warren, 1423 N. Walnut Rd. E., filed for position No. 7, which is voted on at large in the district. She will oppose Mark Burris, 308 Fairway Ave., who filed earlier.
Doug Dunlap, first-term incumbent for position No. 2, also has filed for re-election.
That leaves just position No. 3 without a candidate, held by two-term incumbent Mary Apt. Position No. 3 is in the north central part of Iola.
New board members will take office on July 1.
The filing deadline is noon Jan. 25. BOE candidates must file in the Allen County clerk’s office.
