Tristan Mittelmeier, at left, and Blake Mittelmeier build a salad with spinach, onions and radishes plus other salad fixings at Wednesday’s end-of-school SAFE BASE gathering for family members and volunteers. Youths attending SAFE BASE helped plant the produce served at the meal in the Wayne Garrett Children’s Garden at Lincoln and Sycamore streets. Youths attending SAFE BASE also helped make the salad dressings for the meal. The garden is made possible through a grant from the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City.
