The Whisnants will bring their southern gospel music to the Bowlus Fine Arts Center Saturday.
The concert, sponsored by the Southeast Kansas Christian Artist Series, features the popular Morgantown, N.C.-based group.
The Whisnants have been around since 1970 and have performed across the United States and Canada, although they only occasionally venture west of the Mississippi River, said Dee Singer, president of SEKCAS.
“We’ve been trying quite a while to get these guys to Iola,” Singer said. “They put on a great show.”
For years, the Whisnants have been a mainstay at the National Quartet Convention and have appeared on the Gospel Music Southern Style Program on the INSP Network on several occasions.
They have produced 11 No. 1 songs on the Christian gospel charts, most recently with their song “I’ll Pray For You.”
The Whisnants feature Jeff and Susan Whisnant and their sons, Austin and Ethan; Aaron Hise and Eric Hollis. Jeff Whisnant is a charter member of the group.
Advance tickets are available by calling 365-7496. Tickets in advance sell for $13 for orchestra seating and $11 in the balcony. Tickets also will be available at the door for $14 orchestra and $12 balcony. Students pay half price for balcony seats.
