Craig Abbott’s farm northeast of Carlyle was a busy place last Sunday.
An event sponsored by the local Upland Pioneers Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Foundation drew 22 youngsters from Iola, Garnett, Yates Center and Humboldt to learn about trap shooting, using bows and arrows and the ins and outs of B-B guns. Helping with those events were C.L. Fulton, Don Erbert, Becky Carlson, Jack Wilson and Steve Barlow.
A hunting dog demonstration also was a part of the day’s activities. Bud Sifers taught training techniques and Neil Crane brought two of his dogs.
Craig and Georgia Abbott and Bob and Shirley Walden cooked hamburgers and hot-dogs for the participants, each of whom was accompanied by a parent or guardian.
At the event’s conclusion, a drawing for a 20 gauge Remington shotgun was won by Logan Preston, Iola.
